In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to Hospice of the Northern Hills, 1440 N Main, Spearfish, SD, 57783 or the Nisland Community Church, Nisland, SD 57762. Solomon Solly Stark was born on October 14, 1920 in Sterling, CO to Peter and Amelia (Frick) Stark. The family moved to Maywood, IL, returned to Colorado and then moved to Nisland, SD where Solomon attended school. Solomon spent his youth farming and breaking horses and teams. The family moved to what is now the home place in 1938. On December 11, 1946 Solomon wed Philippina Heidrich at Broadus, MT and they started their life together on one of his fathers farms at the junction of Hwy 212 & 79 near Newell, SD. During the blizzard of 49 their firstborn Ralph arrived. In December 1949 Solomon and his new family moved to the home place east of Nisland. In 1950 daughter Dorothy was born followed by son Peter in 1953. In 1964 Solomon and Philippina purchased the home place from his father. In 1975 nephew Dale Stark joined the family. Solomon spent his life doing what he really loved: farming, raising sheep and being an active member of the Nisland Church. He was truly a Man of the Land. Due to declining health Solomon had to leave the farm, and go into the Belle Fourche Senior Care Center until his passing. Survivors include his wife Philippina (Phyllis), Nisland; Sons Ralph (Letha Mandeville), Bozeman, MT; Peter (Vicki Johnson), Nisland; Dale (Michelle Hoff), Gering, NE; Daughter Dorothy (Werner) Fortak; Brother Walter John (Marge), Newell; Sister Esther (Robert) Prickett, Arizona; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
