Sonya Rae Fairbairn, 68, Piedmont, SD, died Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be noon until time of services at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Fr. Michel Mulloy officiating. Friends may gather at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis prior to leaving for the cemetery.

Sonya was born June 11, 1941 at Pipestone City, MN, to Raymond and Elva (Knight) Baden. She moved to Van Nuys, CA, where she graduated from high school. She was introduced to John Fairbairn and the couple was married in Old Mexico on November 10, 1976. In 1978 the couple moved to Albuquerque, NM, where they gave birth to their one and only child. She worked as a waitress until she became disabled.

Sonya lived for her grandchildren and loved them very much.

Survivors include her husband John Fairbairn, Piedmont; one daughter Gena Webb, Black Hawk, SD; her mother Elva Cantlay, Carmichael, CA; one brother Ted; two sisters, Bonnie and Julie; also 3 grandchildren Cameron, Alexandra and Kerrin.

She was preceded in death by her father.
