Stephen Harold
Westerman
Oct 23, 1950 — Sep 22, 2020
Livingston
Stephen Harold Westerman, 69, completed his earthly journey on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Avera St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre, South Dakota after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Steve was born October 23, 1950, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Harold and Dora Westerman. The family moved to Pierre, South Dakota when Steve was 12 and he graduated in 1969 from T.F. Riggs High School. After high school he moved to Denver, Colorado where he completed his secondary education at Denver Technical Institute.
Steve married in 1974 and owned/operated Westerman Trailer Service in Ft. Pierre, South Dakota. He and his former wife had three children before divorcing in 1984. After his divorce he operated finish scraper on road construction projects in South Dakota, Minnesota and Wyoming until 1999 when he moved to San Antonio, Texas and went to work for Ron Hoover RV and Marine. He worked for Ron Hoover for 18 years until he retired in 2017.
Steve married his best friend and soul mate, Sandra (Skotvold) Westerman in 1990. During their years together they traveled extensively within the United States. They always had an adopted fur child or two traveling with them. Two days before retirement, Steve was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer Stage IV. He and Sandy continued with their dream, to travel and live in their RV working together as campground hosts. Chemo, radiation, surgeries, nothing slowed him down. His Faith provided the fuel.
Left behind, with the promise to join up later, are his wife, Sandy of Livingston TX; his son, Luke (Lindsay) Westerman and granddaughters, Aubree and Jaycee from Cutbank, Montana, and a sister, Sharon (Mike) Gunderson from Bowdle, South Dakota. His daughter, LaShana Westerman and three grandchildren live in the State of Washington. His parents, one daughter, two sisters and two brothers proceeded him in death.
Steve requested that there be no visitation, formal prayer service or funeral. In lieu of flowers he requested that any donation or memorial be sent to Sandy for assistance with medical and final expenses.
His final mortal wish was for Sandy and all of their family, fRamily, and friends to take a private moment to reflect on the blessings in their lives. He was always grateful for each and every one of you in his. Steve leaned heavily on his Faith and belief in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. He believed that God walked with him for a reason and will continue to care for those he leaves behind until they catch up. So, here's a final "howdy howdy" from a man who was so much to so many. God Bless You all!
