Obituary

Steve Alan Carlson of Newcastle, Wy was born on January 4, 1961, in Ballard, WA, to Arthur Carlson and Beatrice Carlson (Geidl).

Steve, 65, passed away in Rapid City, SD on April 18, 2026, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Steve proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Following his service, he built yachts, was a handyman, and eventually found his passion as a tattoo artist, where he expressed his creativity and connected with many people over the years.

Steve enjoyed fishing, gardening, being outside in his backyard, and being creative in all ways possible, especially with miniatures.

He was first married in 1986 and had two daughters, Kailey and Audrey. He later married Annamarie Buckallew Carlson in 2004, with whom he shared the rest of his life and became a loving father to James, Amanda, and Kathy.

Steve was a devoted family man who cherished his role as husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Annamarie Carlson; children, Kailey Carlson, Audrey (Wes) Grant, James Cook, Amanda Huey, and Kathy (Matt) Nelson; 6 grandsons: Steven Huey, Kenjamin Miller, Xavier Grant, Nathan Grant, Wyatt Grant, and Jasper Steveson; 5 granddaughters: Madilynn Grant, Adrianna (Conner) Becker, Sara Huey, Raylee Steveson, and Izabell Nelson; 3 great-grandchildren; his siblings, John Carlson, Cherri Carlson, Joni (Tom) Ayson, and Tami (Andrew) Beltran; as well as many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Carlson and Beatrice Carlson-Swanson.

Steven will be remembered for his strength, creativity, and the love he had for his family. His memory will live on in the lives of all who knew him.
