Obituary

Steven Grant Denton, known to everyone as Steve, passed away on July 16, 2026, in Sturgis, South

Dakota. He was a dearly loved husband, father, brother, son, and grandfather whose life was defined

by his unwavering love for family, generous spirit, and contagious personality. Steve made his family

his number one priority and touched countless lives while creating memories that will be treasured

forever.

Steve was born on July 14, 1960, in Springfield, Illinois to Jerry Michael Denton and Patricia Ann

(Clements) Hughes. He grew up in Clyde Park, Montana, and spent the last years of his life in South

Dakota with his beloved wife, Margaret.

Steve was generous, funny, stubborn, and overall one of the best people to be around. His warmth

and sense of humor brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know him. A true outdoorsman,

Steve loved spending time in nature and especially cherished fishing trips with his lifelong friends.

Whether casting a line on the Yellowstone River or sharing stories, laughter, and friendship along the

water, those moments brought him immense happiness. An avid fly fisherman, he treasured every

opportunity to be outdoors, surrounded by the people and places he loved most.

Steve also had a deep appreciation for music. From Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones to the Eagles,

his favorite songs provided the soundtrack to a life well lived. Whether at home, on the road, or

gathered with family and friends, music was one of the many things that brought him joy and

reflected his adventurous spirit and love of good company. Steve was also a collector of many things,

finding enjoyment in the treasures, keepsakes, and unique items he gathered throughout his life. His

collections reflected his curiosity, personality, and the stories he accumulated along the way.

Steve is survived by his wife, Margaret Denton; his daughters, Cierra Gervasio (Salvatore Gervasio),

Whitney Borchers, and Chyla Garlow (Forrest Garlow); his mother, Patricia Hughes; his siblings,

Cheryl Merrill (Brian), Nicci Grice (Jerry), and Jerri Weston; and his cherished grandchildren,

Jayden Saito, Louis Gervasio, Kennedy Borchers, Rowan Garlow, Maya Garlow, and Sylvie Garlow

and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Michael Denton; his brother, Jerry "Pete" Michael

Denton; and his nephew, Jerry "JD" Michael Denton III.

Though our hearts are broken, we are beyond grateful for every moment we were blessed to share

with Steve. The love he gave so freely, the strength he showed through every chapter of life, and his

unwavering devotion to family will remain with us always. Though he is no longer by our side, he will

forever be in our hearts, deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near;

still loved, still missed, and forever dear."
