Steven Jerome Lockhart, 62, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Rapid City Regional Hospital after a recent diagnosis of terminal lung cancer.
Steve was born on July 20, 1955, in Cando, ND to Myrtle and Howard Lockhart. He lived in McIntosh, SD, most of his childhood where he attended elementary and high school graduating in 1973. After graduation , he went on to Western Dakota Technical Institute in Rapid City where he completed a course in carpentry. He enjoyed the building trade so much as he had helped his father for years in the family business, Lockhart Lumber.
Steve had struggled since his early twenties with mental illness and eventually COPD, but he was a fighter with a soft heart, always concerned about the rest of his family. He loved animals and the outdoors, and loved hearing about the latest hunting story. He had lived at Foothills Assisted Living in Sturgis, SD for the last two years.
He is survived by his sisters, Sandra (Marshall) Campbell, Rapid City, and Holly (Jim) Glines, Rapid City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marlon; and sister, Carol.
Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Spearfish, Sd. A family memorial service will take place a later date.
