Steven "Shied" Patrick Parsley, 71, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs Hospital, Fort Meade, SD. After a valiant 8 ½ year battle with cancer and he is now at peace.

Steven "Shied" was born May 1, 1954 in Brookings, SD to Ralph and Mary (Sutton) Parsley. After graduating from high School in 1972 he enlisted in the US Navy, honorably serving until 1978. The next couple of years were spent hitchhiking the southwest with his dog, Sarsaparilla, ending up in Central City. He started his career as a logger in 1980.

He is survived by sisters, Susan Foster, Madison, SD, Stephena (Earl) Kallemeyn, Carroll, IA, Sheila (Chris) Christensen, Wessington Springs, SD, Stacia Parsley (Steven), Sturgis, SD, Sharon (Tom) Matus, Carlsbad, CA, Shawn (Dave) Switzenberg, Maui, HI; brother, Scott (Val) Parsley, Madsion, SD; special friends, Albert Kryger and David Bosch; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary, and two brothers-in-law, Jim Lamberty and Jud Foster.

Steven's last ride will be to Black Hills National Cemetery, Tuesday, November 4, 2025, 10:00 a.m., with family and friends gathering at Kinkade Funeral Chapel at 9:00 a.m. Any and all are welcome.

Following the ceremony, we will be gathering at Lumpy's Casino in Central City. Dress code optional, but Shied would always wear jeans. Please bring your stories and memories of Steven to share!
