Steven D. Sjomeling, 69, Sturgis, SD passed away June 26, 2025 at his home.

Funeral Services for Steve will be Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Visitation will be one-hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery near Deadwood.

Steven Dale Sjomeling was born November 29, 1955, to William and Ella (Conway) Sjomeling in Deadwood, SD. Steven was raised in Deadwood, graduating from Lead-Deadwood High School. Throughout High School Steve worked for Boots Keller doing various jobs and the hunting camps every fall. After High School Steve worked his way through college by logging in the Black Hills and went on to obtain an associate's degree in building construction at the University of SD of Springfield. He returned to Deadwood, where he married Dianna James on October 8, 1976, at the Church of God of Prophecy. Steve started working for Zandstra Construction as a finish carpenter and worked his way up to Foreman.  Steve then began working at St. Joseph's Hospital as their cabinet builder and carpenter. He took on the maintenance department in what became Northern Hills General Hospital in Deadwood, retiring in 2022 from what had become Monument Health, Lead-Deadwood Hospital.

Steve was a gifted carpenter and woodturner and created many beautiful pieces that he shared with his family. If you gave him an idea, he would create a masterpiece. He spent many years coaching and referring soccer and was very involved in all Jerry and Jason's sports. Watching Erika dance around the living room and Levi driving the skid steer in the driveway brought a smile to Steve's face.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ella Sjomeling and a sister Sandy.

Survivors include his wife, Dianna, Sturgis; sons, Jeramie Sjomeling and Jason (Celena) Sjomeling; grandchildren, Levi and Erika; brother, Bill Sjomeling; along with various nieces and a nephews and great nieces and nephews.
