Obituary

Hill City resident, Terry Michael Sager, died Monday, July 1, 2019 at Fort Meade VA Hospital in Ft. Meade, SD. He was 69 years old.  Terry was born March 13, 1950 in Owatonna, Minnesota to Shirley McGowan and George Sager.  He served two tours of duty in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.  The Veteran's Administration determined that his exposure to the chemical defoliant, Agent Orange resulted in the terminal cancer that ended his life.

Will humanity ever learn from past mistakes?

Supporting Terry's final journey was a close circle of family and friends. The following tribute to those who shared his life was written by Terry before his passing.

"For all that I am I owe so much to my family – my mother, my daughter, Angie and grandchildren, Mia and Sam of Denver, CO. My two sisters, my brother, and their lifelong partners: Karen and Chuck Carlson of Hill City, SD, Tim and Genny Sager, and Kathie and Garry Burman of Madison, WI. My numerous nieces, nephews, and half-siblings who are scattered from sea to shining sea.  Thank you for all of the love and happiness we shared.

To my good friends who shared my last years: you helped me build my final cabin. You made me laugh at the coffee club.  You kept the snow off my driveway. You were my partners working on the Trail.  You know who you are and I'm a better man for having known you all.

So, go celebrate life by helping a friend or stranger in need. Toast a cold one on my behalf or support a good cause.

I have no complaints and I am at peace with my regrets."
