IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thelma Joan
Bradley
March 28, 1937 – January 8, 2022
Thelma J. Bradley of Sturgis died Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Monument Health in Sturgis, South Dakota.
Thelma Joan Bradley was born March 28, 1937, to Carp and Elizabeth (Langdon) McAmis near Alva, Wyoming. She was the fifth of seven children: Bruce, Nina, Marjorie, Charles, Robert and Beverly. Thelma was raised on the family ranch near Alva, Wyoming, and attended grade school at Bell River Country School near her home. She completed high school in Hulett and went on attend St. John's McNamara School of Nursing in Rapid City, SD, graduating in 1958. Her nursing career began at St. John's and continued until her marriage. Upon moving to Sturgis in 1974 she resumed her nursing career at Sturgis Community Memorial Hospital retiring in 1999 after a fulfilling career of caring for others.
Thelma met the love of her life, James Bradley, in 1958 and they married January 2, 1960. Together Jim and Thelma were blessed with seven children: Janet, Lori, Brian, Pamela, Patricia, Lisa, and Bruce. They have 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Our favorite memories of Mom include her laughter, her "can do" attitude and willingness to learn new things. There was never a task too large for her to complete. She delivered opinions and advice making her the "sheriff" of the family. Known as Grandma T and Mom - our greatest gift.
She wasn't just our wonderful mom and grandmother; she was a beloved friend. Her kitchen table was the centerpiece where meals and laughter lived. She opened her home to all who entered, and her generous nature was felt by all as she baked and cooked for family and friends. Mom was never one to sit down because there was always something that needed to be done. Her strength and guidance helped her family navigate difficult times with unconditional love and support. She instilled in all of us the value of hard work and respect. After retirement she kept busy lending a hand to anyone in need. Helping her children and grandchildren was one of her greatest joys.
Thelma is survived by five daughters, Janet (Glen) Long of Enning; Lori (Dave) Kunz of Edina, Minnesota; Pamela (Ulrich) Hoellering of Ingolstadt, Germany; Patricia (Gary) Hinkle of Omaha, Nebraska; Lisa Larsen of Spearfish; and Bruce Bradley (Tracy Davis) of Sturgis; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, James; father, Carp; mother, Elizabeth; son, Brian; grandson, Benjamin; son-in-law, Scott; brothers; Charles and Robert, and sisters; Nina and Marjorie.
Our family would like to extend a special thank you to all those who have kept us in their thoughts and prayers.
