STURGIS - Thelma Mae Sorensen, 70, Sturgis, died Friday, November 2, 2007, at the Sturgis Regional Health Care Center.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis on Sunday. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Sunday at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2007, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Fr. Kerry Prendiville officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

A memorial has been established.

Thelma was born in Wagner, SD, to John and Dorothy (Payer) Hron of Wagner, SD. She married Merl Sorensen in 1957 and divorced in 1978. She moved to Sturgis with her family in 1962. Thelma enjoyed hiking, playing cards and spending time with friends and family. She was active in her church, St. Francis of Assisi and the Homebound Ministry. Thelma was employed as Deputy Register of Deeds for 9 years, in Medical Centers for 18 years, and Pamida for 5 years.

Survivors include 3 sons: David (Barb) Sorensen, Sheridan, WY, Fr. Bryan Sorensen, Martin, SD, Kevin (Iris) Sorensen, Dayton, WY; one daughter, Valerie (Bill) Meirose, Sturgis; mother, Dorothy Hron, Baraboo, WI; two sisters, Wilma Leonard, West Baraboo, WI, Joan Kniffen, Livermore, CO; one brother, Bob (Charlotte) Hron, Virginia Beach, VA; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thelma was preceded in death by her father, John Hron.
