Thelma J. Swanson, 83, Rapid City, died at the Clarkson Mt. View Health Care in Rapid City on Saturday, March 17, 2007.
Thelma was born at Dayton, Ohio, on June 12, 1923, to Irwin and Theresa (McNally) Kalbfleisch. When she was 4 years old, the family moved to Western South Dakota. She lived in Lead and Moskee, Wyo., as a young girl.
Thelma graduated from St. Martins School in Sturgis. She served in the U.S. Navy and for many years, and she worked for the NW Bell Telephone Company in Spearfish and later in Rapid City, where she retired.
She was a member of the American Legion in Rapid City and of the Telephone Pioneers. She was also a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral.
Survivors include her cousin, Virginia Klein, Sturgis.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, with the Rev. Arnold Kari officiating and burial at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
Rosary services were at Kinkade Funeral Chapel on Tuesday evening.
