IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Theresa Ann
Casteel
October 30, 1937 – November 5, 2020
Theresa was born on October 30, 1937, in Mitchell, South Dakota, the daughter of Emil and Gertrude (Budde) Lorang. She was a great Woman, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
Theresa attended high school at St. Martin's Academy and received her Teaching Certificate from Black Hills Teaching College. She taught K through 8 in the Meade county rural schools as well as primary grades in Sturgis, SD. She married Kenneth on June 26, 1963, at St. Francis of Assisi church and lived on their ranch outside of Sturgis.
Theresa always told you the truth even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Her words of encouragement, wisdom, and sometimes comfort, kept us in line, taught us the "school of hard knocks" and gave us something to pass down to our children.
Everyone always knew where they stood with her. She liked you or she didn't, it was black or white. As her children we are still trying to figure out which one it was for us (we know she loved us).
Theresa was a 4-H mom and spent countless hours traveling back and forth to meetings, activities, the county fair, and helping her children with their projects. She was also involved in the Volunteer Extension Club, St. Ann's Circle, and the Red Hat Society. She worked at the Food Stamp Office and worked for the Election Board.
After her children were grown, she enjoyed traveling. From a bus trip to Branson, Missouri, to a cruise in Alaska. She was not afraid to try new things, rollerblading with her daughters, riding a mini-bike, and sitting on the back of a Harley. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Theresa Ann Casteel, 83, Rapid City and formerly of Sturgis died Thursday, November 5, 2020, at Fountain Springs Health Care in Rapid City, SD.
She will be missed by her surviving children: John, Anna, Bette, and Mike; daughters-in-law: Julie and Sara; sons-in-law: Mike and Lane; grandchildren: Brittney, Stephanie, Brandon, James, Heidi, John, Dakota, Alicia, James, Rachel, Roy, Charley, Kenny, Henry, Billy, Maria, Maggie, Millie, Mary, and Frank; and great-grandchildren: Nevaeh, and Amaya.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Gertrude Lorang; her loving husband Kenneth; and eldest son, James.
All whom loved her dearly and will never forget her tenacity, wit, charm, grace (when pertinent) and undying love and care for them.
