Theresa Marie Hammond, 84, Spearfish, died Tuesday, September 2, 2009, at the Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.
Visitation will be noon until 5:00 p.m. on Friday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. A Rosary service will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel with Fr. Kerry Prendiville.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2009, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Spearfish with Fr. Tim Hoag officiating. She will be inurned with her husband at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Friends may gather at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis on Tuesday prior to leaving for the cemetery.
Theresa was born January 11, 1925, at Ipswich, SD, to Frank and Barbara (Glass) Heinz. The family moved to Spearfish where Theresa graduated from Spearfish High School.
She married Philip Hammond on October 28, 1946, in Spearfish. The couple lived in Spearfish and Theresa owned and operated the Thrifty Togs and Treasures store for several years. She also enjoyed sewing, traveling and trips to Deadwood. She was a family oriented grandmother who enjoyed playing dolls and games with her grandkids.
Survivors include her sons, Kriss Hammond, Las Vegas, NV, and Kevin (Mary) Hammond, Lead, SD; one daughter, Debra (Robert) Grimshaw, Rapid City; one sister, Mary Burnham, Seattle, WA; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 5 brothers, and 2 sisters.
