Thomas Wayne Anderson was born August 20, 1940, in San Francisco, CA, to F.P. and Mary Leta (Locklear) Anderson. He joined his Savior in Heaven on January 7, 2026.
Tom grew up as a pastor’s kid in California with one younger sister, Marilyn. A natural salesman, Tom worked as a young adult for Titco selling nuts, bolts, and washers door to door, as well as Nalley’s selling pickles and canned food products while going to International Bible College in San Antonio, TX. In 1966, he joined his pastor father as assistant pastor at Oak Valley Church in Oakdale, CA. By 1970, Tom took over as pastor, a role he served in until 1978. In 1979, Tom went to work at New York Life selling life insurance. Tom never fully retired from working, but his most important work was sharing the love of God with the people around him.
On January 11, 1985, Tom married the love of his life, Joan. He loved her well, and theirs is a love and devotion that inspires.
Tom and Joan cared for their family, loved many dogs over their (almost) 41 years together, and traveled all around the United States with their fifth-wheel. Craft woodworking, gardening, and bicycling up Spearfish Canyon were some of Tom’s favorite activities near Spearfish, which he called home in his final season of life. Tom was a proud American and a proud follower of Jesus. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was ready to share that with everyone he met.
Tom is survived by his lovely wife Joan; children, Richard Anderson of Washington, Terry (Penney) Anderson of California, Jon Anderson of Washington, and Anita Anderson of Indiana; stepdaughter, LeeAnn (Tim) Kugler of South Dakota; grandchildren, Carissa (Grant) Guiley, Ryan Anderson, Robert Anderson, TJ Anderson, Bo Anderson, Daniel Anderson, Gary Anderson, James Anderson, and Taylor (Steve) Brown; step-grandchildren, Ryan (Carrie) Fremont, Wesley (Bailee) Fremont, Andrea (Jared) Benson; 13 great grandchildren; and 11 step-great grandchildren; and his sister, Marilyn (Marty) Feuerstein of Missouri.
Christian funeral service will be held Monday, January 12, 2026, at 10:00 am at Connection Church of Spearfish, followed by burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation in recognition of Tom’s love for his country and those who serve it.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Rapid City Monument Hospital for their compassionate care.
