Thomas James Jackson, 82, Sturgis, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at Sturgis Regional Hospital.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Black Hills National Cemetery with Chaplain Herbert Cleveland officiating. Military honors will be provided by Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard. Family and friends are welcome to meet at Kinkade Funeral Chapel prior to going to the cemetery.
Tom was born on July 8, 1931, to James Roger and Catherine Mary (Twilligan) Jackson at Ithaca, New York. He served in the Navy from 1949 to 1952, and the Army from 1952 to 1955, until his honorable discharge. He married Jeannette Reta (Deschamps) Gillies on November 1, 1975, at Fort Meade.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2730, American Legion in Piedmont, and a lifetime member of the Freemasons of Deadwood.
Tom enjoyed fishing, camping, and volunteering at Ralph's Auctions and the Kiwanis Food Pantry.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette "Jeanne", Sturgis; two daughters, Janette (Alan) Edwards, Antheim, AZ, and Laura Zimmerman, Catskill, MT; son, Thomas Jackson, Jr., Ojai, CA; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Vance (Kathy) Gillies, Sturgis, Boyce (Cindy) Gillies, Whitewood, Regina (Jim) Bowman, Sundance, WY, and Penny Nyberg, Gillette, WY; nine step-grandchildren; and nineteen great-step-grandchildren.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Haven.
