Thomas Eugene "Gene" Lewis, 81, Nisland, died Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with family present from 5 until 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Mr. Joe Hobbs and Mr. Craig Winquist officiating. Burial follows at the Hope Cemetery in Newell.

Gene was born July 7, 1932, to John and Mabel Lewis in Sturgis. He attended Langdon School near Nisland, SD for eight years.

He was joined in marriage to Lois Kosbau on November 10, 1955 at Hot Springs, SD. To this union four sons and one daughter were born.

Gene and Lois lived in Rapid City until 1958, where Gene worked for the Manchester Biscuit Company. They moved to Nisland, SD, in 1958 and farmed there until his death.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lois Lewis, Nisland; three sons, Tommy (Melodie) Lewis, Newell, Loren (Kris) Lewis, Nisland, Stanley (Karla) Lewis, Nisland; daughter, Noreen (Maynard) Yule, Nisland, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren; four sisters, Lorraine (Harley) Rossow, Garretson, SD, Elma (Dewayne) Eatherton, Sturgis, Elaine (Alfred) Merwin, Hot Springs, Willene (Joe) Shinost, Sturgis; plus a host of lifelong friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Everett Lewis; one brother, John "Jack" Lewis, and one sister, Ruth MacDonald.
