IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas Wayne
Oliver
April 1, 1958 – October 24, 2021
Thomas Wayne Oliver was born on April 1 st 1958, to Dale and Lolita (Hodgman) Oliver in Sturgis, SD. He passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021, in Rapid City, SD.
Tom spent most of his life in Piedmont, SD, and in 1976, he started a lifelong career at Dacotah Cement (later known as GCC Dacotah). A year later in 1977, he married his high school sweetheart, Nancy. They spent 44 amazing years together. They found property, built a home and raised two sons, Seth and Luke. Tom loved fishing, hunting, spending time with family and a pretty Ford truck. The perfect day for Tom would be out on the boat, preferably Lake Oahe, with his family. He loved to travel with his wife, Nancy as they attempted to visit as many National Parks as possible. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, watching them grow and play sports. One of his fondest memories was being with his grandson, Brody when he shot his first deer. After 45 years Tom retired from GCC Dacotah as quarry manager. Over the last two years Tom battled various health issues resulting from cancer treatments 15 years ago. During this period, he found innovative ways to navigate day to day life. He fought hard, a testament to his work ethic and commitment to family. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Dale Oliver; father-in-law, Edward Merrill; and brother, Dale Oliver Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Merrill) Oliver; sons, Seth (Jodee) Oliver, and Luke (Jessica) Oliver; grandchildren, Brody, Gavin, and Olivia; his mother, Lolita Oliver; mother-in-law, Beverly Merrill; sister, Judy (Paul) Merfeld; brothers, Jeff, Steve, and Bob Oliver. Along with many wonderful in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered with every cast of a reel and every sunrise during deer season.
