Obituary

Tommy was born February 19, 1943, in Sioux City, IA, to George "Blackie" and Leona M. (Kade) Stapp. He grew up and attended school in Newell and graduated from Newell High School.

Tommy joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Rhode Island. He met and married Darlene Gordon in Attleboro, MA, on September 18, 1965. Following his honorable discharge, they returned to Newell and helped on his dad's farm. They ran a dairy and raised hogs.

Tommy and Darlene moved into Newell in the 80's. Tommy drove a school bus and was a rural mail carrier. He trained Labrador retrievers for 35 years. He guided hunts for Sutton Bay and High Plains Game Ranch.

Their family activities included many sports and drag racing cars. He loved kids, his family, and especially his grandchildren.

Tommy Nathan Stapp, 73, Newell, died Monday, June 13, 2016, at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Fort Meade.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Stapp; daughter, Sundi (Admiral) Brist; sons, Bryan (Tasha) Stapp and Chad Stapp; eight grandchildren; one brother, Harry (Merri) Stapp; five nieces; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 18, 2016, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. and a time of sharing from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 20, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Newell City Hall with Pastor Doug Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery in Newell.

A memorial has been established to the Newell Ambulance Service.
