REVA - Valerie Estelle Meyer, 85, died Saturday, October 13, 2007, at West River Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.

Valerie was born February 20, 1922 in South Shore, SD to Lloyd and Ruth Medin. Her early childhood was spent in Sioux Falls attending school and at her parent's farm near Strool, SD. She attended grade school at Pleasant View, Strool, SD and high school at Washington in Sioux Falls, SD. After high school, she attended college in Spearfish, SD.

On December 31, 1943 she married her husband, Raymond, of 65 years. Valerie was a secretary for the United States Air Force during World War II. She taught in the public schools in Baltic, SD, Vivian, SD and Harding and Perkins County for many years. She was the executive secretary for Harding and Perkins Farm Mutual Insurance until her retirement in December of 1994. In addition to her secretarial work, Valerie was an active partner at Sodak Angus Ranch, where she helped her family with various ranch duties.

Valerie and her husband Raymond, enjoyed traveling to South America, Europe, Australia, and touring the United States in their RV. She enjoyed baking and will be especially remembered by friends and family for her special caramel rolls.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond, Reva, SD, three sons, Bill Meyer, Belle Fourche, SD, Vaughn (Lois) Meyer, Reva, SD, Lynn (Ila) Meyer, Olathe, KS, daughter-in-law Robin Meyer, Belle Fourche, SD, brother Ted (Colleen) Meyer, 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Ruth Medin, her son, Bobby Meyer, and brother Lowell Medin.

A memorial service will be held at Kinkade Funeral Home in Sturgis, SD on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with inurnment at the Rose Hill Cemetery at Spearfish, S.D. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the West River Regional Medical Center Nursing Scholarship.
