Verda Jean Lowe, 73, formerly of Newell, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be noon until 4 p.m. with the family at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis on Sunday. Visitation resumes at 8 a.m. until time of services on Monday.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Reverend Michael J Fox. Burial follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established to the First Lutheran Church in Newell.
Verda was born February 21, 1936 at Wilmot, SD, to Robert and Margaret (Christianson) Clausen. She graduated from Wilmot High School. On January 30, 1955 she married James Lowe at Aberdeen. The couple moved to Rapid City where James was employed. Verda was a homemaker and raised their family.
They moved to Piedmont and lived there until Jim's retirement. They moved to Newell, SD, where Verda was a member of the NVN Senior Center. She enjoyed sewing, crafting and baking homemade goods.
Survivors include her sons; Douglas L. (Pam) Lowe, Black Hawk, Robert Lowe, Black Hawk; one brother, Garith (Marcia) Clausen, Walla Walla, WA; two sisters, Marlys (Dennis) Smith, Chaska, MN, Karen (Bruce) Carlson, Savage, MN; grandchildren, Amber (Brandon) Foster, Jeremy (Danielle) Lowe, all of Black Hawk; five great grandchildren, Hailey, Ashley, Elizabeth Foster, Black Hawk, Paige, Jacob Lowe, Black Hawk.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim on October 2, 2009, two sons, Leslie and Michael.
