Verla M. Cisneros, 87, of Medford, OR, passed away at Farmington Square, Enhanced Memory Care on March 30, 2012. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 where she will join her husband, Louie. Family and friends may gather at Kinkade Funeral Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery.

Verla was born November 6, 1924 in Rapid City, SD, to Nestor and Bertha (Cosgrove) Erickson. She graduated from Deadwood High School in 1943. Later she worked in Rockford, IL at a war plant. She then returned to the Black Hills to work for Thorpe's where she learned to manufacture jewelry.

After moving to California, she married Louie Cisneros in 1955. They were blessed with a daughter, Tamara Lynn in 1957. Verla started a Girl Scout troop at the Atwater Elementary school in Los Angeles, and she was also active in P.T.A. and the Booster Club.

Verla and Louie retired to Deadwood in 1982 from Los Angeles. Verla was an active member of the Society of Black Hills Pioneers and served on the Board of Directors. She also enjoyed being an officer in Thursday Club and a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Lastly, she was proud and vocal in saving the Terry Cemetery, where some relatives are buried. She will be missed, but not forgotten, especially with her laugh and positive outlook.

Verla was preceded in death by an infant son; her parents; her siblings, Archie Cosgrove, Jr., Dorothy O. Kessler, and N.A. Erickson, Jr.; and her loving husband, Louie.
