IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vickie Renee
Olsen
April 24, 1950 – September 24, 2021
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Vickie Renee Olsen, 71, of Box Elder, SD, our loving and devoted wife, mother, and friend to all whose lives she touched, on September 24, 2021, at Monument Health in Rapid City.
Vickie was born on April 24, 1950, in Thief River Falls, MN to Les and Betty Erickson. As a child, she was mischievous and full of laughter, but she also displayed an equal amount of stubbornness and determination; those she encountered know she carried all these traits with her her entire life. She spent her teenage years working and running around with her best friends Nila and Terry, including standing up for them at their wedding. She graduated from Anoka Senior High School. She utilized her social nature and went on to barber school. This was the start of her love of her unique hairstyles. Vickie was blessed with the birth of Paula Jo. She was a fantastic and protective mother.
Vickie met Ron, fell in love, and on November 17, 1978, in Watertown, SD, they were married. Nila and Terry repaid the favor and stood up for them. In this union she gained two more daughters, Monica and Mandy. The three girls' closeness in age created inquisitive questions and of course more drama. Although she impacted plenty of lives when she decorated with Home Interiors, cared for the elderly at nursing homes, and worked at other jobs, her life consisted more of who she was rather than what she did. As her goddaughter Shelly said it best, "When she listened it was with her eyes, ears, heart, and soul. She could make anyone feel like they were the only person that mattered at that moment. She was comical in her expressions both good and bad. She was an advocate and stood up for people and helped when you were down. I have never seen eyes that had such a zest for life as hers." Vickie had a sense of adventure and it was fueled even more in the past few years as she and Ron full-time RV'd all over the country, making new friends. However, the Black Hills was the place she called home. Her laugh was infectious and made you want to join in. Once she snorted, it was certain everyone was laughing. She enjoyed being busy and spent her free time being crafty, drawing, mini-golfing, and spending time with God. Her faith in God was strong and she lived with Him by her side always.
Vickie is survived by her loving husband Ron; children Monica (Jay), Paula Jo (Joe), and Mandy (Dave); children of her heart Jamie (Kendra) and Dawn (Mike); grandchildren Aubree, Ella, Adam, Amanda, Christian, Trey, Henry, Sarah; grandchildren of her heart Erik, Lynzie, and Zoe; and loyal companion Minnie. She is also survived by her siblings Cindy (Ken), Dennis (Donna), Lorna (Bob), and Lisa (Mike).
She was preceded in death by her parents Les and Betty, siblings Lyle and Mary Lou, and grandchildren Rickie and Bryan. Her love of her grandchildren was immeasurable, and you could tell they filled a space in her heart that she never knew was empty.
While Vickie's life was shorter than expected, she lived life to the fullest and without regret. She is now His favorite angel. She loved everyone more.
