Violet Janeen Potter was born on July 15, 1948, in Deadwood, SD, to Francis and Alice (Stainbrook) Potter. She was joined by siblings, LaVonne, Arlo and Colleen. The family lived for 2 years in Custer and then for many years on Crook City Road between Spearfish and Whitewood. Violet attended school in Custer and then her remaining years in Spearfish, graduating from Spearfish High School in 1966.
As a youngster Violet enjoyed life on the family ranch with pine covered hills to the back and wide pasture grounds to the front of the family home. She loved birds and fish and assorted family pets. Exotic fish in large aquariums were main stays of the home. After graduation Violet worked at a greenhouse and loved working with plants. She also was an excellent quilter and made many quilts for family and friends through the years. Violet also attended and graduated from Black Hills Beauty College. She worked in that field for a time and always enjoyed arranging hair for herself and others.
Not to be forgotten was her love for music. She played several musical instruments most prominently the accordion and piano. In the days before recorded music she played with the circuit orchestra for assemblies.
Violet was raised by her parents as one of the Jehovah's Witnesses and was baptized on June 1, 1957. After high school graduation she bean pioneering with the Deadwood Congregation. Although her career as a pioneer was cut short by health issues she lived up to her dedication to Jehovah and was happy to share the good news of the kingdom with many people through the years. Meeting attendance and participating in the ministry were always priorities in her life.
She is survived by her sister, LaVonne (Mark) LaLonde of Spearfish, SD; brother, Arlo (Patricia) Potter of Whitewood, SD; and sister, Colleen (Bruce) Bennett of Sturgis, SD; also nephews and nieces including Brad LaLonde of Spearfish, SD; Tonya Owen of Denver, CO; Jared LaLonde of Minneapolis, MN; Mistie Goddard of Piedmont, SD; Cameron Potter of Whitewood, SD; Quentin Potter of Spearfish, SD; Natasha Alt of Rapid City, SD; Tara Creagor of Rapid City, SD; Levi Bennet of Rapid City, SD; and Beau Bennett of CO.
