Virgil M. Van Der Boom, 92, of Newell, died at his home Sunday, March 5, 2006.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at the Newell Christian Fellowship Church with the Rev. Sean Carney officiating. Burial followed at the Hope Cemetery near Newell.
Kinkade Funeral Chapel of Sturgis was in charge of arrangements.
Virgil was born Jan. 10, 1914, to Govert and Emma Van Der Boom. He grew up in the Govert and Newell areas and lived there his entire life.
He graduated from Newell High School and married Mildred Baker April 7, 1935. He farmed in the area and was involved in several businesses, selling farm machinery and Patz equipment. He was also known as "Van The Nut Man."
Survivors include his grandchildren, Melanie, Kallie, Wade, Tami, Vicki, Troy, and Trent, along with numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two sons, Douglas "Rommy" and Craigg; and granddaughter, Rhonda.
