Virginia was born on December 2, 1943, to Ole and Doris (Dow) Bauer in Sturgis, SD. She grew up on the family ranch at Fairpoint, SD with her three brothers and two sisters. She graduated from Newell High School in 1961, and after graduation attended Beauty College in Rapid City, SD.
Gin married her high school sweetheart, Dick Keil on December 15, 1962, and they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past December at home with her family that she loved dearly. After they were married, they settled in Newell where she worked for Mary Ellen Edwards, fixing hair for several years and then opened a beauty shop of her own. She loved fixing hair and always considered it a hobby and never work. In 1990, they sold their place north of Newell and moved out to the ranch where Dick was raised and ranched with Grandpa Bill Keil, until he passed away and their youngest son, Reggie purchased the ranch and took over the operations. They moved back to Newell and bought a little acreage east of town and she continued to fix hair, and also worked for 15 years as the school lunch lady at the Newell School, she loved children and always had a story to share about them. She continued to fix hair in her home up until September 2012, when she was diagnosed with cancer. She spent many hours opening the chute for her children and grandchildren practicing roping and also ice skating, sledding, and jumping on the trampoline. She enjoyed gardening and loved her flowers especially her wild snapdragons that just popped up out of nowhere although a grasshopper, dandelion, or weed didn't stand a chance in her yard. She also will be known for her very clean windows and walls. We will miss her beautiful grin and giggle but it is forever embedded in our hearts.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dick Keil, Newell; daughters, Lori (Harold) Miller, Newell, Jean (Darin) Schuelke, Newell; son Reggie (Sebby) Keil; Prairie City. Sisters Joyce (Don) Simmons, Nemo, Margaret (Neil) Mutchler, Spearfish, Marilyn Bauer, Piedmont; and brother, Pete (Jo) Bauer, Fairpoint. Her grandchildren, that were the loves of her life, Garrett Vig, Kamira, Kecia and Kianna Miller, Lacey and Tanner Hewitt, Taygen and Lane Schuelke, and Sadee Rae Keil. Numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews that adored her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and parent in-laws, and brothers Jack and Billy Bauer.
A memorial has been established to the Children's Miracle Network at the Rapid City Regional Hospital and also the Sturgis Hospital Lippold Hospice Suite.
