It is with great sadness that the family of Vivian P. Melton announces her passing away on April 1, 2006 at the age of 102 years. She died of natural causes.

Vivian was born in Stuart Iowa on Nov. 3, 1903 to William and Pearl Taylor. She married Porter M. Melton on June 6 1927. Before her retirement in 1986 she did bookkeeping with the Franklin Hotel, Burlington Trailways, Continental Trailways, and Greyhound bus lines.

Vivian loved to do needlework, play bingo and blackjack. Even at the age of 101 and 102, you would occasionally see her at the blackjack table at the Gold Dust Casino in Deadwood.

She is preceeded by her husband Porter M. Melton, three brothers, one sister, and her parents William and Pearl Taylor.

She will be remembered by her son Jene and wife Betty Melton, her five grandchildren, Patrick Spitzmiller and wife Carolyn, Kara Diede and husband Leo, Porter Marc Melton and wife Joyce, Deborah Weiers and husband Tom, Jeffrey Melton, and a sister Floydine Millis. Vivian will also be forever remembered by her 11 great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
