Vivian Marie Schmidt was born October 2, 1944 in Belle Fourche, SD to Helen and Wilbur Long of Newell, SD. Vivian attended Newell schools, graduating in 1962. Vivian married Bruce Schmidt on June 13, 1964. Eventually they would make their way to Derby, CT. Vivian worked in accounts payable in Pop Fasteners, Black and Decker, and Warnaco while in Connecticut. In 1981 Vivian and Bruce had a son, Matthew.

Vivian and Bruce moved to Davidson, NC to retire. Vivian worked at Hancock Fabrics, where she would meet many people and make more friends. Vivian had a passion for sewing and made many things for people throughout the years.

Vivian had rheumatoid arthritis for many years and endured several surgeries related to RA. Vivian handled this with dignity and a positive attitude, never complaining. Everyone that met Vivian walked away with a faithful, life-long friend. Vivian always made a point to teach children to wipe their faces on the inside collar of their shirts, then laugh when they did.

Vivian passed away on January 19, 2021.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 57 years, Bruce; son, Matthew; sisters, Patricia Marshall and Frances Petrowski; a brother, David (Maria) Long; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and too many family members and friends to list.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Wilbur Long; sisters, Sandra Lewis and Arleen Buchanan; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Interment will be at Hope Cemetery in Newell, SD.
