BELLE FOURCHE | Walter Sherrill Stetter, 84, of Belle Fourche, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Belle Fourche Healthcare Center. He was born to Nick and Ida (Raber) Stetter on February 21, 1930, the second to the youngest of 12 children. He joined his family on their homestead north of Belle Fourche. He grew up on the ranch and attended Stetter School, where he was voted the biggest brag, noisiest, and most punctual. Cars gave Dad the freedom to "go to town" where he eventually met Judith Johnson. He told her he wouldn't marry her until she graduated from high school. On May 25, 1951, the day after she graduated, they were married in her family home in Belle Fourche. He took her home to the ranch where he eventually became a partner with his brother, Sam. They worked hard together until selling the ranch and moving to town. Walt is survived by his three daughters, Sherrill (Bob) Bermes, Molt, MT, Stacy (Doug) Packer, Brighton, CO, and Shelley Stetter, Belle Fourche; a sister, Beverly (Larry) Larsen; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear family friends. Walter is preceded in death by his wife, Judy (Johnson) Stetter; his parents, Nick and Ida (Raber) Stetter; and ten siblings. A very special thank you to Shelley for all the loving care. We love you Daddy, and no matter what we got into, we ALWAYS knew you loved us too.
