Wanna (Speed) Young was born November 10, 1923, at Clough, SD, to Lawson and Mable (Ferguson) Speed. She attended high school at Stoneville, SD.
She married Robert J. Young January 3, 1945, at Sturgis, SD. To this union, two children were born, Linda and Bob.
Wanna was a member of Eastern Star (Matopaha Chapter #98 of Sturgis), Ladies Auxiliary VFW of Sturgis, and was a 4-H leader for 11 years. She was a member of Stoneville Steadies Extension Club since 1945 and a member of the Sturgis Senior Center.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and being with her kids and grandchildren. She was a friend to all.
She moved to Sturgis in 2005 to Heritage Acres and to Mt. View in 2016. She really enjoyed being at both places.
Wanna, 95, Sturgis, died Monday, August 12, 2019, at Mt. View Assisted Living.
She is survived by daughter, Linda (Tom) Burnham; son, Bob (Susie) Young; grandkids, Troy (Susan) Burnham, Tammy (Dave) Stewart, Tera (Jason) Digmann, Brenda (Scott) Sabers, Robby Young, and Matthew Young; and great-grandkids, Josey and Justin Burnham, Ainsley and Easton Sabers, Annaka and Ayden Digmann, Trailin and Tayah Young, and Kayclynn and Kali Young. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who were all very special to Aunt Wanna.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert J.; brothers, Lawrence "Budge," John, Russell, and Charles "Chick;" sisters, Esther and Leona; nephews, Cecil Speed, John Speed, Sonny Gleason, and Jerry Speed; one great-nephew; and one great-niece.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Pastor Paul Henschen and Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
A memorial has been established to the 4-H Building Fund.
