Obituary

Warren J. Veren, 89, Rapid City and formerly of Sturgis, died Friday, December 17, while in the loving care of the staff of the Golden Living Center, Bella Vista, in Rapid City.

Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Denzel Nonhof officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Warren was born on March 15, 1921 east of Sturgis, SD to Albert and Ida (Johnson) Veren. He was the youngest of eight children and attended country school in Sturgis. After joining the Navy, Warren married Bertha (King) Veren on March 5, 1945. After his time in the Navy the couple returned to Sturgis to make their home and Warren began work at Fort Meade. They later welcomed a daughter and were transferred to Menlo Park, CA where Warren supervised five laundry facilities for the Veterans Administration until his retirement in 1978. The family returned to Sturgis to enjoy retirement.

Warren is survived by his daughter, Cori (James) Parker; sister-in-law, Jan Veren; sister-in-law, Norma King; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, all seven brothers and sisters and his wife Bertha.

A memorial has been established to Alzheimer's research.
