Black Hawk
Wayne Nicholas Gamroth, 74, made his final journey home after a hard-fought battle with cancer on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at his home in Black Hawk, SD, surrounded by family.
Wayne was born on May 31, 1948, the 2nd of 5 children, to Wilferd and Myrtle (Stuart) Gamroth in Beach, ND. On September 21, 1968, he married Alma Maus in Golva, ND. He was drafted into the Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam from March to November of 1969.
While in Vietnam, his first child, Jowayne was born in Beach, ND. He met her for the first time when she was 6 weeks old. In 1971, the family moved to Bismarck/Mandan, ND where he worked in the parts department of the Chrysler dealership. While living there Angela and Tonja were born.
In May of 1978, they moved to Dickinson, ND where they purchased and operated the Home Terrace Motel. That June, Brent was born. When they decided to sell the motel, Wayne built a home for the family north of Dickinson, with his own hands.
In 1983, they moved to the Rapid City/Black Hawk, SD area for Wayne to take a position as the parts manager of a new Kenworth dealership in Rapid City. He later became a parts manager for Peterbilt and worked various other jobs throughout the years.
In 1987, he became a grandpa for the first time and over the years 13 more grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren were welcomed to the family. Great Grandpa Gamroth is a mouth full, so his great grandchildren call him Triple G.
In 2016, he retired from Black Hills Door Systems where he installed garage doors. He soon opted out of retirement to help his daughter, Angel, build her tiny home.
His greatest passion was restoring Mopar vehicles. He had restored numerous vehicles and was working on a 1935 Dodge Pickup and a 1935 Chrysler Airflow when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Cancer. He was unable to finish these last projects leaving them to his Son-in-law and grandson to carry out his final legacy. He was a member of the Dakota Rods & Classics Car Club winning numerous awards for his craftsmanship.
