Obituary

Wayne Willis Walters, 70, Sheridan, WY, passed away on September 16, 2011, at West View Health Care in Sheridan.

Wayne was born February 25, 1941, in Watertown, SD, to Willis "Bill" and Emma (Melvin) Walters. In 1949, the family, including his two younger brothers, moved near Henry, SD, where his father established Tinkertown, a country store, treasure shop, and tourist attraction, building The World's Largest Pheasant, which still remains a landmark in the area. Wayne worked in the store during his school years, a trade which helped shape his interest in other people's "junk" and antiques. He attended country school at Pleasant Valley and graduated from Henry High School in 1961, excelling in track.

Wayne had a life-long passion for hunting and fishing and spent many hours enjoying both. He was also a gifted musician playing a number of instruments, including the piano. Throughout his life, he entertained, not only his family and friends, but shared his gift with numerous other people, including residents at local nursing homes.

Wayne worked for Firestone, Bridgestone, and Cobra Tire Company for more than 44 years, eventually settling in Sheridan, WY. He met Margaret Elaine Stanford and they were married in Sheridan on August 30, 1975. Their son, Raymond David Walters, was born February 10, 1981. Margaret and Wayne enjoyed going to auction sales, yard sales, and owned and operated The Raven's Nest Antique Shop in Sheridan for a number of years.

He is survived by his son, Raymond Walters, Sheridan, WY; two brothers, Dennis (Judy) Walters, Aurora, CO, and Curtis (Karen) Walters, Sturgis, SD; mother-in-law, Julia Stanford, Sheridan, WY; brother-in-law, David (Cecilia) Stanford, Carlsbad, NM; five nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Dean Posner, Lincoln, NE.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1981 and his mother and wife in 2009.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
