Obituary

Wesley Lushbough, 96, lately residing in Sturgis, SD, died Saturday, August 2, 2008 at his daughters ranch home in Perkins County near Prairie City, South Dakota.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel, 1235 Junction Avenue, Sturgis, SD.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel Pastor David Baer officiating. Burial follows at the Bear Butte Cemetery.

Wesley was born October 4, 1911, at Wagner, SD, to George and Angie (Slaker) Lushbough. The family moved to western South Dakota when Wesley was 9 months old and later moved to Minnesota for a time. Wesley attended school in Minnesota and in Butte and Meade Counties.

Wesley married Evelyn Ruth Cooper on June 5, 1937 at Sturgis, SD. The couple lived in Rapid City and Newell and later moved to Spearfish, where they raised a son and twin daughters.

He worked for the Chicago & North Western Railroad for 37 years, retiring following a significant work injury in 1969. After his retirement the family moved to Belle Fourche then to a rural home near St. Onge and finally to Sturgis.

Wesley was a strong union supporter and a 74 year member of Transportation Communications International Union (was The Brotherhood Railway Carmen of America). He was also a member of Modern Woodmen of America for 64 years.

Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a great grandson.

Surviving family members are his wife of 71 years, Evelyn, Spearfish; daughters Lavina (Marshall) Goddard, Prairie City, Lavera (Kenneth) Moum, Topeka, KS; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

His son, Ralph W. Lushbough, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital on August 4, 2008.
