Obituary

Wesley Albert Steele, 84, Gillette, WY, died Sunday August 31, 2008 at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette.

Memorial services will be 10 :30 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD, with Pastor Howie Baird officiating. Burial with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Wesley was born March 29, 1924 at Kyle, SD, to Carl and Minnie (Slea) Steele. He finished his schooling before moving to Wessington Springs, SD, where he was employed in farming and ranching. He joined the US Navy and served his country honorably. After his discharge in 1946 he returned to Wessington Springs and returned to farming and ranching.

Wesley married Edna (Fieldes) O'Banion and the couple moved to Nebraska where Wesley ranched.

They moved to Oregon where he was employed as a block layer. He returned to South Dakota in the early 60's and worked in Eagle Butte and Rapid City in construction.

Wesley married Beverly Jean (Anderson) Dupris in 1961. They lived in the Rapid City area until the mid 70's when they moved to Wyoming. In the early 90's they moved to Vacaville, CA and later to Reno, NV until returning to Wyoming in 1993. Wesley was involved in the construction of missile silos and interstate road construction as well as commercial and residential construction throughout his career.

Survivors include his sons Robert, Wesley and Thomas Steele, all of Rapid City, Kenneth Steele, Gillette, WY; daughters, Sheila Steele, Gillette, WY, Patsy Guettler, Gillette, WY, Mickey Bradshaw, Sheridan, WY, Sherry Tuttle, Adrian, MI; one brother, Charles "Buddy" Steele, Rapid City; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly, daughter Nyla, son William, daughter Pamela, brothers Lesley, Leo, Tommy, William "Ole", sister Kathryn "Dolly" Colwell.
