Obituary

Wilbur Eugene Knaub, 73, Newell, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010, at David M. Dorsett Health Care after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wilbur was born at March 26, 1937, at Minitare, NE, to Henry and Mary (Miller) Knaub. While in school, Wilbur participated in several sports. He graduated from high school in 1955. He entered the US Navy in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957.

Wilbur married Hazel Trohkimoinen at Newell on July 20, 1958. To this union, five children were born.

Wilbur worked at Fort Meade for 11 years. He farmed and ranched until 2001 when they moved to Newell.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. Wilbur was a member of the Vale Volunteer Fire Department and the VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel of Vale; his children, Doug Knaub of Vale, Dana Knaub of Pampa, TX, Robin (Joe) Garro of Gillette, WY, Michael Knaub (fiancée, Trish) of Belle Fourche, SD, Lisa (Terry) Seth of Box Elder, SD; one sister, Becky (Steve) Finn of Gillette, WY; one sister-in-law, Ola Knaub of Ponce DeLeon, FL; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death parents and two brothers, Walter and Glen.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at10:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Randy Bradley officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their thanks for the wonderful support of the Newell, Vale area, the wonderful care of Hospice, Comfort Keepers, and Dorsett Health Care, and the outpouring of support for our family.

Memorials have been established to Northern Hills Hospice, Newell Ambulance, and the Vale Volunteer Fire Department.
