Obituary

William "Bill" Malcolm Barger, 77, Whitewood, died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral chapel prior to the services on Wednesday.

Committal services will be 10 am Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Pastor Dan Ziebarth officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may gather at the funeral chapel in Sturgis.

Bill was born February 27, 1936 at Red Oak, IA to Malcolm C. and Helen (Ewart) Barger.

Bill lived in Clarinda, IA, Alliance, NE, and West Liberty, IA prior to moving to Whitewood. He was the oldest of four children.

Bill joined the Navy in 1954 and served four years and four months. While in the service he had a top secret security clearance as a Radio Intercept Operator. The position was hectic and the secrecy was hard to protect but he did have the opportunity to learn Morse Code. He enjoyed traveling to Japan and learning new languages. He saw the Great Buddha and fished in Tokyo Bay. He only dislike was being away from his family for so long.

After the service, Bill worked for 22 years at Assemblers Inc. He held multiple positions including welder, machinist and plant maintenance in the area of electronics. He was known as the guy that fixed problems for other people.

Bill's favorite treats were chocolate and ice cream.

Survivors include his two daughters, Joy Thompson Lincoln NE and June Cochron, Dennison TX, several nieces and nephews and an extended family.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother Bob Barger, sister Jane Cox, brother Lynn Barger, sister Susan Barger and brother Michael Barger.
