Bill was born June 10, 1964, at Oakland, CA, to Henry and Connie Barff. He attended school and grew up at Clearlake, CA. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base.

While in the Air Force, he was a mechanic. He also met the love of his life, Patty Sigler. They were married September 22, 1984, in Sturgis.

After his honorable discharge, he started his career as an auto mechanic for Triple K Tire in Central City, SD, until 2004 when he started his dream job with the Sturgis Police Department. It was his nature to serve and protect. He was often asked for help and he gladly offered it to anyone in need.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, and scaring people, including his family.

William Joseph "Bill" Barff, 52, Sturgis, died Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at his home in Sturgis.

Survivors include his sons, Andy, Brandon (Tiffany), and Kyle (Lacy); his parents; several siblings; numerous extended family members; and his dog, Brutus.

Visitation will be 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Committal services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Friends and family are encouraged to meet at the funeral chapel at 9:30 a.m. for the procession.

A memorial has been established.
