William D. Carter, 60, Piedmont, died Friday, November 13, 2009 at his residence in Piedmont with family by his side.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2009 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont.

Private family inurnment services will be at the Piedmont Cemetery at a later date.

Bill was born October 6, 1949 at Valentine, NE, to Ernest and Arlene (Farmer) Carter. He moved to California with his family. He also lived in Idaho before moving to South Dakota in 1963. He graduated from Sturgis Brown High School in 1968. He started riding bulls in high school and was the NRCA Finals Bullriding Champion in 1972.

He moved to Arizona and lived there for several years before returning to the Black Hills

He married Darlene Ewert on March 9, 2004 at Las Vegas, NV.

Bill was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Boulder Canyon Country Club and the Elks Lodge. He was a lifetime member of the Western South Dakota Buckaroos.

He enjoyed Bull Riding, Horseback Riding, Golf and socializing with friends.

The family suggests memorials to the Sturgis High School Rodeo Club, Grace United Methodist Church or the charity of ones choice.

Survivors include his wife Darlene Carter, Piedmont; daughters, Tonya Stevenson, Tacoma, WA, Michelle Carter, Tacoma, WA, Kristi (Brian) Scott, Lake Havasu, AZ; step sons, Perry Wade, Rapid City, Cole Wade, Piedmont; step daughter, Kelli (Corey) Brost, Spearfish, SD; his mother, Arlene Carter Snyder; brothers, Milton (Nancy) Carter, Wickenburg, AZ, Tom (Debbie) Carter, Piedmont, SD, Bryan (Kelly) Carter, Piedmont, Clifton (Emily) Carter, DesMoines, IA, Donny Carter, Des Moines, IA, Merle Carter, Des Moines, IA, Carroll Carter, Des Moines, IA; sisters Ila (Carl) Holzbauer, Los Angeles, CA, Glory (Bill) Stewart, Des Moines, IA; also 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and one son, Beau Carter.
