Bill was born February 7, 1937 in Deadwood, SD, to Christian and Kathryn Margaret (Sheridan) Orwick.
He grew up on the family ranch at Mud Butte, SD, attending country school at Mud Butte. He was an exceptional student and was allowed to skip two grades.
He graduated from Newell High School and attended Regis College in Denver, CO, and then served in the US Army for two years, mostly in Germany before returning to the family ranch. In 2007, Bill moved to Belle Fourche where he lived for the rest of his life.
Bill was very good with horses and enjoyed raising and training them. He became interested in Morgan horses and drove a pickup with a stock rack to Chicago where he bought a stallion.
William Dean "Bill" Orwick, 80, Belle Fourche, died Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Belle Fourche Long Term Care Center.
Survivors include his brother James (Joyce) Orwick; sister in law, Susan Orwick; several cousins and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Betty Jean; brothers, Richard and Howard Orwick; two nephews, Dick and Matt Orwick; one niece Julie Orwick Sexton; one sister in law, Ida Mae Orwick.
Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday February 14, 2017, at the St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newell. Rosary services will begin at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newell with Father John Paul Trask officiating. Burial with military honors follows at the Hope Cemetery in Newell.
Memorials have been established to the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mud Butte and the Mud Butte Fire Department.
