Obituary

William Walter Henke, 73, of Summerset, SD, passed away peacefully at home on July 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Affectionately known as Bill, he was a devoted husband, proud father, adoring grandfather, and loyal friend. He dedicated over 35 years of his life to the United States Air Force, including 22 years of active duty, followed by continued service in a civilian capacity. Throughout his military career, Bill was not only a leader but also a mentor, someone his fellow airmen turned to for guidance, wisdom, and steady encouragement. His long-standing commitment to his country reflected his deep sense of duty, discipline, and pride in helping others grow and succeed.

Bill shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Connie, a loving partnership rooted in loyalty, laughter, and strength.

Beyond the uniform, Bill was a man of many talents and passions. He found joy in carpentry, building with his hands and heart. He also loved geocaching, combining his love for the outdoors with his sense of adventure and curiosity. For 42 years, Bill and his wife, Connie, shared a love for square dancing, a rhythm that brought them joy, community, and countless memories. Together, they also enjoyed camping and off-roading, embracing the outdoors and the thrill of the open trail.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Henke; his daughters, Tammy Miller and her husband Richard Miller, and Dawn Miller and her husband Daniel Miller; grandchildren, Morgan Lenz, Peyton Lenz, Riley Schmidt, and Conner Schmidt; and his sister, Theresa Talbott. He was deeply proud of his family and will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, and steady presence.

A funeral service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Black Hills National Cemetery.

His legacy lives on in every life he touched.
