Obituary

William "BJ" Johnson passed away on November 4, 2022, with his loving wife and son by his side.

William "BJ" Johnson was born on September 2, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois to Alice and Bert Johnson and was the oldest of eight children.

BJ was proud veteran of the United States Navy and after leaving the Navy in 1964, he moved to the Black Hills, knowing that it would forever be his home.  There he met the love of his life in Custer and married Geraldine (Geri) Torgrude on June 23, 1967.  Custer would become the perfect place to raise their son, David.

BJ loved fishing and hunting with friends and family.  He loved a good cup of coffee with anyone that would listen to the tall tales of fishing.  He loved a game of cribbage with anyone willing to look at the sideways turn of his hat.  He loved telling a good joke and making people laugh and smile.  He made life better for those that were lucky enough to know him.

BJ, we love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.

He is survived by his wife, Geri; son, David (Linda); four granddaughters - Dawn, Cherie, Cassie, and Ashley and 14 great grandchildren. His living siblings include Bernie (Sue); Mary; Lois (Bob); Debbie (Steve); and Kay (Wayne).

Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter, Erica, and siblings, Butch and Barb. He is now with his fishing buddies.

Inurnment will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, May 26, 2023, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
