Obituary

William L. Lee, died March 9, 2020 at Fort Meade VA Hospital Hospice Unit.

William L. Lee (Bill) was born August 11, 1946 in Flandreau, SD to Woodrow and Agnes (Hanson) Lee and grew up in Rapid City, SD. After high school he enlisted in the Navy, stationed aboard the USS Kawishiwi. He was then transferred to the Seabees and as a member of MCB 40, served two tours in Vietnam, building and maintaining an air strip at Chu Lai.

He married Judy Bouska on September 10, 1965 in Rapid City. Following his military discharge they returned to Rapid City where he was employed as a route salesman for Metz Baking Company for 26 years. After he retired from Metz, he enjoyed driving bus for the Rapid City School System for 12 years.

Bill enjoyed outdoor activities although fishing was his favorite and he earned a number of tournament trophies. He liked teaching others the finer points of walleye fishing! Many family outings took place outdoors, camping, hiking, and spending time at the "lake trailer" at Angostura. Countless hours were spent in the boat, treating the family to water skiing, tube riding, and trolling for prize walleye. Grandchildren made those adventures even more special and he loved taking them on day trips in the hills, often ending the day with an ice cream treat.

Always ready to try something new, he excelled at trap shooting, liked to go rock hunting, panning for gold, and also tackled home remodeling projects. He dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren as they grew to adulthood.

Bill is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy; two daughters, Barbara Lee (Ryan Phillips) of Sturgis, and Rebecca (Wade) Wasserburger of Edgemont; four grandchildren, Shane Lindholm, Casey Lindholm, Rowen Drury, and Erin Drury; two sisters, Nancy (Loren) Murren of Rapid City, and Maryann (Larry) Petrick of Rapid City; brothers-in-law, Marv (Jean) Bouska of Rapid City, and Ray Bouska of Spearfish; and his cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Sturgis Regional Nursing Home and the staff at Fort Meade VA Hospital/ Hospice Unit for their care and concern.
