William R. McDonagh, 83, Sturgis, died May 25, 2014, at Sturgis Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 2, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Arnold Kari officiating. There will be a rosary at Kinkade Funeral Chapel Funeral Chapel on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at 7:00 p.m.

William R. McDonagh was born August 2, 1930, in Miles City, MT to James and Violet (Reiley) McDonagh.

William worked with his father on the family farm and was also a fireman for the railroad in Miles City, MT.

He served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953. Discharged in 1953 and worked with his dad and older brother until July of 1956, when he enlisted in the US Air Force. He worked at Hill Air Force in cable maintenance from June 1963 until January 1987.

In January of 1961 he married Irene (Cluff). They were married until her passing in January 1994. On September 29, 1995, he married Mary (Schuster) and they were married until the time of his death.

William is survived by his wife, Mary Madell; sisters, Alice (Gary) Parks, Sioux Falls, SD; brothers, Peter McDonagh, Miles City, MT, John (Donna) McDonagh, Puyallup, WA, Owen (Nancy) McDonagh, Minneapolis, MN; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Violet; one son, Andy Anderson; sisters, Eunice Ganteaume, Elenor Klar, Therese Weber; brothers, James and Charles McDonagh; and one grandson, Mark Piekkola.
