William R. Morgan, 83, Gillette, WY passed away Friday, December 15, 2023, at Legacy Living and Rehabilitation Center in Gillette.

William Ray Morgan was born November 8, 1940, in Vermillion, SD to Arthur and Lottie (Chamberlain) Morgan.  Later his family settled in Sturgis.  Bill attended school in Sturgis, graduating from Sturgis High School in 1960.  Shortly after graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy for four years.  While home on leave, shortly before being discharged from the Navy, Bill met Alta Delahoyde.  After returning home from his service in the Navy, Bill married Alta on June 5, 1965, in Lead.  He then began a career in law enforcement, which lasted for over 20 years.  He worked for the Spearfish Police Department, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Lawrence County Sheriff's Office and Campbell County Sheriff's Office.  After retiring from law enforcement, Bill worked various jobs, before settling in a career as a real estate agent.

He loved fishing and had a large model train collection for many years. He also enjoyed his dogs.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur & Lottie Morgan and a brother Bob Morgan.

Survivors include, his wife, Alta Morgan; daughters, DeeAnn (Jeffery) Wendt, Lisa (Rob) Dell; grandchildren, Nathan Jeremy, Thayne, Gabrielle, Caitlin and Marcella; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Mike (Karen) Morgan; sister, Mary Ann (Robert) Greear and sister-in-law, Joan Morgan.
