William O. Newman, 91, Spearfish, died July 7 at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of the Northern Hills in Deadwood with Pastor Pat McBride officiating. Burial follows in the Oak Ridge Cemetery near Deadood.
A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church of the Northern Hills in Deadwood.
Bill was born January 26, 1919 in Alliance NE to Paul and Lottie Newman (Hayward). He was raised in Alliance, during his childhood he lived in Missouri and Deadwood for a short time. After he graduated from high school he worked on the Blair and Snyder ranch near Bear Butte, where he learned farming and ranching operations. In 1939 he married Lolita Newman, whom he was married to for 68 years until her death in 2007. They continued farming and ranching at Shadehill, SD and Vale, SD until 1955 when he went to work for Homestake Gold Mine until his retirement.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife and with friends and spending winters in Texas for 18 years.
He is survived by one son Jerry Newman (Sandra), of Rapid City, two daughters, Patricia Morgan (Bruce) of Boulder Canyon, and Belinda French (John) of Witchita, KS, eight grandchildren: Mike, Matt, Mark, Adam, Sara, Jason, Jon, and Nicholas, and 9 great grandchildren.
Preceeded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers.
