Ellen McGill Chalkley, 83, of Rapid City, SD, formerly of Waco, Texas, passed away on November 22, 2009, at Golden Hills nursing home in Rapid City.

She was born on August 10, 1926, in San Angelo, Texas, to Malcolm and Winnie McGill. She was granddaughter of A. A. McGill, namesake for McGill Elementary School in San Angelo.

Ellen worked as a secretary for the Waco Independent School District for more than 30 years. Thereafter, she was very active in her contract bridge club for several years.

She married James Chalkley on August 17, 1951, and they were married for 54 years before his passing in 2005. She is preceded in death by James, as well as her sisters Jewell Lewis of Waco, TX, and Wilma Smith of Lorena, TX.

Ellen is survived by her son Jim (Pam) Chalkley of Henderson, Nevada, and his sons, Ryan, Nicholas and Patrick.
