Chester "Leon" Huckins, 75, Sturgis, SD, passed away February 21, 2024, at Sturgis Monument Hospital.

Leon was born to Verna Jean and Percy Carmon Huckins at their home in Hulett, Wyoming on February 12, 1949. In 1967 he graduated from Hulett High School. He played on the high school football team and loved wrestling.

Leon loved coaching Little League Baseball; watching how the kids grew and developed their skills, enjoyed playing the game and having him as their coach. Some of his other favorite activities including fishing, camping, and hunting.

On August 18, 1968, Leon married the love of his life, Jacqueline "Jackie" Huckins. They remained together for 55 years. Leon and Jackie were blessed with their son, Eugene Huckins on February 12, 1972, and went on to adopt their second child, Jonathan Huckins, in 1995.

He will be missed by the many people he touched daily with his jokes, laughter, and sense of humor.

Leon is survived by his wife, Jackie; son, Jony; best friend and daughter-in-law, Amy Huckins; brothers, Lester (Carol) Huckins, Sturgis, SD, Marty (Beth) Huckins, Gillette, WY, and J.C. Huckins of Sturgis, along with numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Verna Jean and Percy Huckins; son, Eugene Huckins; brothers, Don, Gary, and Wesly Huckins; sisters, Norma Dexter, Hazel Whaley, and Nancy Daniels.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, Sturgis, SD, on March 6, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with Rob Yantis officiating. Inurnment will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to St. Jude's Children's hospital.
