Elwin Delilah Gere-Krug, daughter of Scottie and Merna (Grimm) Gere was born May 1, 1956, in Osceola, Iowa. Elwin passed away peacefully from this life Monday, September 13, 2021, in Rapid City, South Dakota
Elwin grew up living in several cities in South Dakota and Iowa. She graduated from Central Decatur High School in Leon, Iowa. Elwin always worked and if she was employed by you, she was dedicated. Elwin had a fun loving and outgoing personality. She had a sense of adventure that showed throughout her life. Elwin served briefly in the United States Air Force, stationed in Colorado.
Elwin became a devoted mother May 6, 1984, to her pride and joy, son, Matthew. Elwin worked at O'Bryan Brothers for many years until it's closing. Elwin then attended and graduated from Southwestern Community College.
The true adventures of Elwin's life started when she met and married her beloved Kenneth Krug on November 8, 2003. They had an amazing life full of love, adventure, and food. Their travels had brought them to trying unique places and never hesitating to try a new dish. They began their life living in New Orleans. They enjoyed devoting their lives to hosting family and friends, always giving them a great experience. A job change for Ken eventually took them to Odessa, Texas. Here Elwin worked for and retired from Coca-Cola. Elwin lost her beloved Ken in 2018. Elwin went on with their dream of retiring to the Black Hills of South Dakota. Elwin continued on with the love of hosting family and friends, giving them the true South Dakota adventure.
Elwin always made note of the miles she traveled as her heart healed from her loss and she grew closer to God. Elwin was welcomed with open arms by her church family at the First Assembly of Rapid City, SD, Pastor Craig and the Soul Sisters. She made a special note to let these ladies know they were her family.
Elwin leaves to cherish her memory; son, Matthew Snethen of Lamoni, Iowa; sisters: Shelda Gere of Leon, Iowa, and Velma (John) Wengryn of Pleasanton, Iowa; brother, Darwin Gere of Van Wert, Iowa; brother-in-law, Elmer Miler of Leon, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, other family, and many friends.
Those relatives who preceded Elwin in death are her parents, Scottie and Merna Gere; beloved husband, Kenneth; sister, Avis Miler; nephews, John Wengryn II, Todd Wengryn, and Kirk Miler; and niece, Deanna Hill.
Elwin remained utterly, completely, and totally in love with Ken. By the Grace of God, they are together again.
A memorial has been established to First Assembly of God at 4905 Mt. Rushmore Road, Rapid City, SD, 57701, and Assembly of God Church 101 Champa Street, Van Wert, Iowa, 50262, in memory of Elwin Gere-Krug.
