Obituary

Everet Aldean Johnson, 66, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at his home in Vale.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Visitation resumes 8 a.m. to time of services on Thursday.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursda, Jan. 5, 2006 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, with Pastor Gordon Higgins officiating. Burial follows at the Oak Ridge Cemetery near Deadwood.

Everet was born July 31, 1939, to Melker N. and Thobine Johnson in Atwater, Minn.

Everet spent his childhood in Minnesota and moved to South Dakota in 1957, and started working for Homestake Mining Company. For a short time, he moved to the Riverton, Wyo., area and worked for a uranium mine before coming back to the Homestake where he retired in 1994.

Everet had three wonderful children and married Jean (Hoffman) on May 3, 1969, and they made their home in Deadwood before moving to Vale in 1997.

His greatest joys were spending time with his grandchildren and family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, stock car racing and playing poker in Deadwood.

Survivors include his wife Jean, Vale; two daughters, Cindy Loguda and her husband Robert, Rapid City, Adriane Melcher and her husband Kurt, Lead; one son Michael Johnson and his wife Lisa, Spearfish; two sisters, Arlene Cornieliuson, Kenniwick, Wash., Marilyn Gilbert, Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Josh and Jennifer Johnson, Katie and Kyle Melcher, Luke, Cole and Jacob Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
